Hydroperoxides are organic peroxides featuring a hydroperoxy (-OOH) group, serving as low-temperature free-radical initiators in polymerization and curing processes.
The most important commercial product is Cumene Hydroperoxide (CHP), used in:
SBR rubber production via low-temperature emulsion polymerization
Curing unsaturated polyester resins
Producing phenol and acetone (cumene process)
Supplied as a liquid, hydroperoxides provide controlled reactivity for synthetic rubber, plastics, and composite manufacturing.
